23rd April
Stape Silver Band were given the opportunity to play in our home town as part of the UCI World Mountain Bike Championships.  The event saw some of the top World Cup riders fighting for a big cash prize on slightly unfamiliar territory, the streets of Pickering town centre including riding through a pub! A slightly different concert to that we are used to but great fun to see all the riders. A few quick drinks after the event with more live music made for a good night out.

7th April - Stape Silver Qualify for the Nationals!
Stape made their way up to Darlington for the North East Areas finals on Sunday 19th March to compete in the 4th Section. Drawn number 10 not a bad playing position from 11 enterants after the hard work and concentration from everyone in the lead up to the contest we were hoping for a good result! With the expert help and support of Ray Farr & our own conductor Mike Breckon we were determined to do them both proud on Mike’s final contest at the front of the band goes to show hard work pays off!!

 Stape Silver took 1st place overall and an invitation to the National Finals in September with Lauren Breckon picking up best principal cornet and her younger sister Beth collecting the Best Euphonium trophy a fitting end to Mikes conducting career with SSB years

"Stape’s winning performance owed much to the MD, Michael Breckon’s sensible approach to all aspects of the score.  

The clarity and detail was admirable, whilst the adherence to the correct tempo markings also paid rich reward – nothing seemed rushed despite the high excitement factor.

Michael’s daughter's Laura and Beth certainly made it a family affair with some fine individual performances that saw them awarded ‘Best Principal Cornet’ and ‘Best Euphonium’."

Stape would like to Thank Mike for everything he has done for all of us over the years and wish him all the best in the future, after this long he knows where the bandroom is and there are various players keeping the seat next to them reserved for the playing comeback of Mr Breckon!!!

31st January - Ray Farr to prepare for Area Contest
Ever keen to try to improve the knowledge and standard of playing at Stape Silver Band we have enlisted the assistance of the world renowned Ray Farr. Ray will be taking the band through its paces alongside our resident conductor Mike Breckon in preparation for the North East Area Finals in March. The bands first rehearsals began in January and will continue through to March. Feedback has been very positive and the band are hoping to gain knowledge in many disciplines.
